Barca defend Messi campaign



Barcelona have shielded their campaign online in backing of Lionel Messi after the Argentine whiz's 21-month jail sentence for assessment misrepresentation.

"We are included in a contention in which there is the inclination that FC Barcelona has carried out an assessment wrongdoing though that is not the situation," said club representative Josep Vives on Monday.

Last Friday Barcelona took to online networking taking after Messi and his dad's conviction for abstaining from paying expenses on €4.16 million of the player's pay earned from his picture rights from 2007-09.

The announcement was joined by a message of backing on Twitter from club president Josep Maria Bartomeu: "Leo, the individuals who assault you are assaulting Barça and its history. We'll protect you to the end. Together until the end of time!"

The jail sentences gave out to Messi and his dad are liable to be suspended as is typical in Spain for first offenses for peaceful wrongdoings conveying a sentence of under two years.

The four-day trial additionally fined the 29-year-old five-time world player of the year €2.09 million while his dad was fined €1.6 million.

The pair have promised to clear their names and are engaging the blameworthy verdicts in Spain's Supreme Court.
